
The Port of Long Beach is working to improve the intersection of West Anaheim Street and Santa Fe Avenue in West Long Beach.
On Monday, Oct. 24, the project enters its final phase of construction and will require the closure of Santa Fe to through traffic.
Electronic signs will be positioned on Santa Fe to alert approaching motorists of the closure.
Motorists can use alternative north-south streets such as Canal and Jackson avenues south of West Anaheim; and Canal, Cota and Hayes avenues north of West Anaheim.
West Anaheim will not be closed -- at least one lane in each direction will be open at all times -- but delays are expected.Motorists traveling on West Anaheim will be able to turn right onto Santa Fe, but not left.

Spanish/español.The overall project will repair and resurface the roadway for smoother driving for motorists.In addition, crews will replace some of the surrounding sidewalks and put in drought-tolerant trees.
Work began in late June 2011 and is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
Traffic impacts
The project will likely result in some traffic delays because of temporary lane closures on Anaheim and intermittent full closure of Santa Fe. However, to minimize the impacts, crews will leave open at least one lane in each direction on Anaheim at all times.

Background
The project is made possible by a cooperative agreement among the Port of Long Beach, the City of Long Beach and the Gateway Cities Council of Governments.The Gateway Cities Council obtained $487,500 in funding from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and the Port is paying for the balance for the $800,000 construction project.
